Homemade Pizza Sauce

Try these easy homemade pizza sauce recipes on your next pizza.

Making your own sauce is a great way to create your perfect pizza. You can experiment with different seasonings and spices to truly make it your own perfect pie.

Here are a few recipes to get you started. Feel free to modify to fit your tastes!



Slow-Cooked Tomato-Based Pizza Sauce

Ingredients

  • 3 TBSP olive oil
  • 1 large onion diced
  • 3 cloves of garlic minced
  • 1 28oz can crushed tomatoes or 2 pounds fresh tomatoes
  • 1 8oz can tomato paste
  • 1 1/2TBSP honey (can substitute sugar)
  • 1 – 1 1/2 TBSP each of dried oregano and basil
  • salt and pepper to taste


Stove Top Directions

Heat the olive oil over medium heat, then add the diced onions and cook until soft. Add the garlic and allow cooking an additional 2 - 3 minutes. Do NOT burn the garlic. Add the remaining ingredients, turn the heat to low and allow simmering for at least 30 minutes.

Crock-Pot Directions

Add all your ingredients to the crock. Set on low for 7-8 hours or high for 3 - 4 hours.

Makes enough for about 4 12" pizzas.

Chunky Pizza Sauce

Ingredients

  • 28 oz. can diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 3 tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 tbsp. dried basil
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • ½ tsp. dried marjoram
  • 2 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • 3-4 cloves of garlic, finely minced


Directions

Combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, and then reduce the heat to a simmer. Allow tocook for at least 15 minutes. Remove from the heat. (You can use a potato masher or blender to break up the chunks of tomato if you prefer a less-chunky sauce). Store in an air-tight container in the refrigerator.
