This turkey pizza recipe turns up the flavor but is still classified as a low fat pizza and also a low carb pizza.
Healthy pizza recipes are a wonderful alternative to the traditional beef and sausage pie.
The lean turkey meat helps reduce the fat and calories, without sacrificing flavor.
This recipe, which is adapted from a Cooking Light recipe, uses a tomato-based pizza sauce, but you can easy use a BBQ sauce as well.
Another alternative would be to add sun-dried tomatoes to the turkey and omit the tomato sauce, using a drizzle of olive oil and garlic instead. Or buy a nice jar of marinara sauce if you're short on time.
There are many ways to dress up this turkey pizza!
Preheat the oven to 400 F.
Prepare the sauce:
Saute onions and garlic in olive oil over medium-heat. Add crushed tomatoes, salt and pepper and bring to a boil. Let simmer at low heat for about 10-15 minutes. Take sauce off heat and let it cool completely.
Prepare the crust:
Lightly coat a 12-inch round baking pan or baking sheet with cooking spray (or you can use a pizza baking stone). If you are using a Boboli, there isn't any prep-work, just follow the baking directions on the package.Roll out dough into a thin circle and press into the pizza pan or place on baking stone (sprinkle a little flour or cornmeal on stone for easy sliding).
Spread cooled sauce on the dough and top with cooked turkey meat and cheese. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
